A bolt is a type of fastener, usually made of metal, usually consisting of a head at one end, a chamfer at the other end, and a shaft, and is characterized by an outer spiral ridge called a "thread". Bolts are usually used to fix materials or objects together, or to locate objects. The chamfer on the other end of the head provides a slightly beveled edge to help insert the bolt into the hole and nut. Bolts usually require a nut, which is applied by torque when the bolt is secured in place. Vibration or dynamic load may loosen the nut, so a lock nut, lock washer or thread locker is needed to prevent it from loosening.
Bolt type
1. Hanger bolts. This type of bolt includes two threaded ends instead of a head, one of which contains a wood screw.
2. Hexagonal bolts, the head of the hexagonal bolt has six faces, the thread starts from a part of the shaft, and the shaft of the tap bolt runs through the entire length.
3. Hack Bolt, a proprietary bolt in which the pin and collar are swaged together with professional tools to form a permanent fix.
4. Square head bolts
Also known as a lag screw, this is a heavy-duty fastener that produces its own mating thread in wood and other soft materials when tightened.
5. Mechanical bolts
This type of bolt has a short shank and is used to assemble metal parts by pre-drilling.
6.Plow bolt
This type of bolt is commonly used in construction tools and other equipment due to its durability, and is characterized by a flat countersunk head and a square shank neck.
7. Square head bolts
This is similar to a machine bolt in that it has a short shank, except for a four-sided bolt head.
8. Stud bolts
This type of bolt has hex nuts on both ends. The assembly is fixed between two bolts.
9. Cork
Bolts for large wood parts.
